Horse Trams Running At Major Deficit

Horse Trams Making £252,000 Loss

It’s been revealed that the Douglas Horse Trams are currently operating at a deficit of over a quarter of a million pounds per year.
 
The Horse Trams have been a staple of the Douglas Promenade since 1876, and were at one time a major draw for tourists but 134 years down the line they are operating at a major loss to the Douglas Council.

In 2007 the deficit reached £270,000, it’s come down slightly now to £252,000.

Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure David Cretney told 3FM that much of the Tourism’s infrastructure runs at a deficit, but the services all contribute to the £100 million brought in each year from tourists:
