The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says it doesn't know how much residential housing has turned into tourism accommodation.
A Freedom of Information request asked how many planning applications had changed the use of buildings into places to stay for tourists in the last five years.
In its response, DEFA says it only has figures for the number of planning applications with the word "tourist" in the proposals.
Its data shows since 2020, there have been 158 such applications.
