A recently unveiled portrait of the Speaker of the House of Keys cost over £7,000.

It's said to be part of a tradition dating back to 1758, and celebrates the 'history and continuity' of Tynwald.

The portrait was painted by artist Andrew Tift, who says the sitting with Juan Watterson revealed a 'deeply committed and proud Manxman.'

The payment of £6,800 to the artist was authorised by the Tynwald Management Committee, with an extra £380 being spent on getting the portrait to the Island.
