The health minister has put in a bid for extra cash to expand long Covid care.

The news comes after questions are asked about how many people are suffering and what support is available.

Lawrie Hooper said on the island, six people are receiving treatment while three are on a waiting list.

The Office for National Statistics estimates 1.3 million people in the UK have symptoms.

According to the NHS website, these can include:

    • extreme tiredness
    • shortness of breath, heart palpitations, chest pain or tightness
    • problems with memory and concentration ("brain fog")
    • changes to taste and smell
    • joint pain

Mr Hooper added if more funding is secured, the service may be expanded to include dedicated clinicians -  including a respiratory nurse, a dietitian and physio service.
