Island's Education Minister 'Can't guarantee there won’t be school closures' amid proposed strikes

The Island's Education minister has admitted she can't guarantee there won’t be school closures, if proposed strikes do go ahead.

It comes following the announcement teaching Union NASUWT are planning to strike for six days between the end of this month and February 2023.

This morning, Ms Edge was questioned by Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse as to what plans her department has, if the strikes do go ahead.

The Minister said due to a 'lack of clarity' on what action will actually be taken by the union, it's been difficult to make contigency plans:

Currently, the department has offered teachers between an eight and 11.9% pay increase which Ms Edge described as 'fair and sustainable'.
