Work is now underway to repair and conserve the Great Laxey Wheel.
The iconic waterwheel was completed back in 1854 to pump water from the depths of the Laxey mines.
The structure found immediate popularity and has remained one of the Island’s most iconic and dramatic attractions for 168 years.
Work will take place over a four month period - including the replacement of old render and defective timbers - while the wheel itself, railings, housing and viewing platform will be repainted.
It's hoped the wheel will re-open in time for this year's TT.
