Port St Mary RNLI was called out to help a kite surfer in difficulty yesterday morning.
Just after 10.20am Port St Mary’s D-Class lifeboat Spirit of Leicester, was paged by Belfast Coastguard to assist the surfer at Derbyhaven.
A member of the public had seen them becoming separated from their board and appeared to be in difficulty and getting pulled out to sea.
Due to the force 6 south-easterly wind and moderate sea conditions, the decision was made that Port St Mary’s relief Trent class all-weather lifeboat was a preferred vessel to attend.
As the vessel was just about to cast off, Belfast Coastguard communicated the kite surfer had managed to make it safely back to shore without assistance so they stood down.
