Local group 'blown away' by generosity of Manx public amid Ukrainian crisis

A local group has been 'blown away' by the generosity of the Manx public.

An appeal from Manx Support Refugees to help those affected by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine resulted in three wagons full of supplies shipped off last night.

Collection points were set up across the Island - with donations of clothing, blankets, medical supplies and toiletries flying in.

It proved so popular the group had to ask people to stop donating because it ran out of space.

The invasion of Ukraine is now entering its 8th day - with the United Nations estimating more than one million people have fled into neighbouring countries.

Now, people with any outstanding items are asked to drop them at the Douglas Sorting Office counter.

However, after Monday items won't be accepted - with charities and front line aid workers now asking for financial support.
