Lowey claims fourth Island golf title

Paul Lowey won his fourth Island golf championship last night (Sunday) in a thrilling victory over Castletown’s Tom Harris.

The Peel player won by the narrowest of margins with a 1up victory after 36 holes having led 2up going in to the final round.

A birdie on the par-four 17th (35th) gave Lowey the advantage heading down the last and another three there sealed victory for the 30-year-old.

The winner congratulated Harris on a great final that could have easily gone either way. The 19-year-old runner-up now travels to England today to start his bid to qualify for this year’s Open Championship.

A moment's applause was also held at the presentation ceremony for the 2011 champion Davy Jones who tragically lost is life in a motorbike accident four weeks ago.
