Mail order drugs man pleads guilty to five charges

A Douglas man is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to arranging for cannabis to be sent through the post to his home address.

25-year-old Janis Jekabsons appeared at Douglas Courthouse earlier this week where he admitted four charges of being unlawfully concerned in the production of the Class B drug cannabis bush.

The court heard how four packages - containing around 36.1g of the drug - were intercepted at the Post Office sorting office between March 3rd and March 10th.

Police subsequently searched his home, seizing a laptop which had evidence of mail order drug websites, and two wraps of cannabis - Jekabsons admitted a fifth charge for possession.

Representing him his advocate said it was a low quantity of the drug and there were no other local parties involved.

The case has been adjourned for reports to be compiled - he will next appear on January 6th.
