Plans to make it illegal to sell or supply single-use plastic have been given the thumbs up by the Manx public.

The results follow the launch of a government consultation to gauge public opinion on banning items like cutlery, straws, carrier bags and food containers.

The survey found that more than 90% of respondents backed the plans, which could form part of the Climate Change Bill.

More than 80% were in favour of banning single-use carrier bags, while 92% supported the the prohibition of polystyrene containers and plastic cutlery.

Under the proposals, businesses would be given a six-month grace period to use up their existing single-use plastic stock before sales become illegal.

The results of the consultation can be seen on the government website
