Man accused of shoplifting and assault faces charges of failing to give evidence

A man accused of shoplifting and assault is also facing charges of failing to answer a summons to give evidence at a coroner’s inquest.

Karl Cameron of Cronk-y-Berry in Douglas appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.

He hasn’t yet entered pleas to assault causing actual bodily harm on April 8, theft on March 5 and failing to attend an inquest on March 8.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told the hearing the 32 year old is said to have punched a man outside Bordello in Douglas at around 3.30am - the man suffered serious injuries after being knocked to the ground.

On March 5, Mr Cameron is alleged to have stolen a bottle of Disaronno from Winerite on Victoria Road.

And the court heard he failed to attend the inquest to give evidence into the death of Dean Costain Quirk on March 8.

A bail application was refused and Mrs Hughes remanded him in custody to appear in court again on April 26.
