Manx palm trees to be removed from Noble's Park

50 damaged palm trees are being removed

Around 50 Manx palm trees will be removed from Noble’s Park after being badly affected by last winter’s cold weather.

Frost has caused irreparable tissue damage and created "wounds” which have allowed bacterial infection to set in.

Douglas Council say despite the trees being part of the landscape for many years it is imperative that they are removed because as well as creating an eyesore they pose a safety risk should their branches fall out.

New trees will be planted in the palm trees place and if the damaged trunks can be cleaned thoroughly and ridded of the infection the timber will be recycled.
