Mark Cavendish has received a boost going into the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards after being crowned Star of the Year by British Sports writers.
Cavendish had the best year of his career being crowned world champion road race cyclist and securing the green jersey in the Tour de France.
The decision to award him male star of the year was reached following a poll of the association's 800 plus members.
Currently Mark Cavendish is favourite to scoop the top prize at the Sports Personality Awards to be held on December 22nd.
