Measles outbreak on Isle of Man, children 'need to be immunised' say Public Health

Parents on the Isle of Man are being asked to ensure they have their children fully immunised against measles.

A small number of cases have been confirmed in the Island, so far all cases have been identified in adults aged over 20.

Following investigations it was found that all of the cases were acquired on the Island.

Public Health want to point out that measles is not a trivial childhood infection and can lead to pneumonia, infection of the brain and middle ear infection.

If you develop a fever, cough and skin rash, it could be measles if you have not been immunised. 

All individuals aged under 40 years, need to check their immunisation history.  If you have not received the measles vaccine, please make an appointment with your practice nurse to receive two doses of MMR.
