MHK David Cannan announces retirement after 29 years of active politics

He said it’s time to move on and allow a younger person with new thinking and fresh ideas to represent his Michael constituency.

Long standing Michael MHK David Cannan has announced his retirement from active politics and will not be seeking re-election in September.

He said in a statement that his decision came after careful consideration pointing out that if he were to get re-elected he would then be in office until he was 80 years old.

He said it’s time to move on and allow a younger person with new thinking and fresh ideas to represent his Michael constituency.

Among his biggest regrets is the failure to provide a fit for purpose surgery and medical centre in Kirk Michael and the creation of a viable and sustainable village at Jurby.

He has said despite his retirement he will still be an active member of the Kirk Michael community.
