MHKs backing petition about Island's public rights of way

Two MHKs are backing a petition for a single government agency to be responsible for the Island's public rights of way.

David Buttery put the petition to Tynwald in July, and described many of our public footpaths, bridleways and green lanes as poorly maintained and badly signposted, saying many are even dangerous and impassible.

The Island's footpaths are currently managed by the DOI, DEFA, Manx Utilities and several local authorities, which Mr Buttery says results in 'inconsistent levels of maintenance.'

Douglas South MHK Sarah Maltby, seconded by Garff MHK Daphne Caine, will call on Tynwald next month to set up a committee of three people to look into the issue, and publish a report by April 2022.

Sarah Maltby says it's a small step in the direction to provide safe places for our children and residents to enjoy.
