Home Affairs Minister Bill Malarkey says there are plenty of criminal offences which could see you jailed for more than 10 years.
In the House of Keys this week he faced a question for written answer from Ayre and Michael MHK Tim Baker about crimes that carry decade-long prison terms.
Mr Malarkey said terrorism offences, crimes against humanity, rape, sexual offences against children, robbery and burglary, treason, murder, or arson all carry long sentences.
However he pointed out there were plenty more crimes that could see people jailed for 10 years but said producing an exhaustive list would be too time-consuming.
