MNH pays tribute to Murray Walker OBE

Manx National Heritage has paid tribute to iconic commentator Murray Walker OBE who passed away last week.

The legendary broadcaster was best known for his commentary of Formula One over many years, and in the early 60's he and his father - a noted TT competitor - both commentated on the TT races for the likes of the BBC and others.

MNH says the Isle of Man held a special place in his heart and he returned many times as a TT fan, often trying to keep a low profile.

MNH Director, Edmund Southworth, says: "In 2009 Murray paid MNH a great honour by visiting our exhibition ‘Honda: The Golden Age’ at the Manx Museum. 

"Before long he was besieged by fans and autograph hunters, so we reopened the museum that evening to allow him a private view, enjoying the exhibits without interruption. He was particularly taken by a Honda ridden by Mike Hailwood in a TT race that he had commentated on."

The organisation says whilst Murray may be gone, his place in TT history is assured.
