    More pollution in Island's waterways

Pollution incidents in Manx rivers have risen over the last year - with 28 reported problems over the past 12 months.

The Island's Environmental Protection Unit dealt with four more incidents than in 2012 although records show they were not as serious.

27 were categorised as minor and only one was deemed 'significant' - unlike the previous year when there were three major incidents.

Despite not leading to widespread contamination, or fish kills, many of the reported cases required multiple visits to stop the pollution and clean up the affected sites.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says the more pollution is reduced the more chance sensitive wildlife has to flourish.
