Motorists urged to get cars ready for winter

Police will be carrying out spot checks

Motorists are urged to ensure their vehicles are fit for the road before the winter months set in.

This weekend the clocks will go back with the nights drawing in, so vehicle users are asked to make sure everything is in working order.

You're reminded especially to make sure wiper blades, lights, battery water, windscreen washer water and tyres are all upto scratch.

To hammer home the point the police will be conducting spot checks on the roads, with vehicles not up to standard facing the prospect of a fine.

As well as these crucial checks you're also reminded to use your lights at all times in reduced visibility and exercise extreme caution when driving on ice.
