New war memorial to remember horses for forces

Douglas could be getting a new war memorial for horses.

When the capital's council sits on Wednesday, its agenda will include minutes from a meeting of the executive committee which recommends the new monument is placed near the existing war memorial.

In 1914, the UK asked for 100 horses from the Island to help with the war effort - in the end, 59 were sent across to serve.

The council says the landmark would include artwork and a plaque to commemorate the animals.
