New Year sentence for roofer who caused hotel blaze

A roofer who caused a devastating fire at Mount Murray will be sentenced in the New Year.

64-year-old Roy Cross appeared at Douglas Courthouse on Monday where his sentencing date was set for January.

The Roofcraft boss was convicted of breaching health and safety legislation in November - he stood trial after denying three health and safety breaches.

They included failing to discharge duty and failing to comply with regulations on November 7th 2013.

On that day he was working on the roof of the hotel and leisure complex in Santon when the blaze broke out.

He was bailed until his sentencing before the Court of General Gaol Delivery on January 20th.
