    Night sailings yet again cancelled

Tonight’s sailings to Heysham have yet again been cancelled.

On its website this afternoon, the Steam Packet announced that both the 7.45 and 2.15am crossings have been scrapped because of conditions at sea.

A series of cancellations caused a mass shortage of fresh supplies to certain supermarkets here which rely on produce from the UK.

Empty shelves could be seen throughout Tesco and Marks and Spencer.

A number of pharmacies also had to ration medication and prescriptions because of a lack of pharmaceutical deliveries.

In a report published last week, Infrastructure Minister David Cretney confirmed that repairs to the Ben-my-Chree can’t be carried out until the ship is dry-docked in April.

The ship sustained damaged to its bow thruster which had to be removed earlier in the year after ingesting debris.
