No oil found on beaches, Gov says

Chapel Beach in Port St Mary

The government says it's found no oil slicks on beaches reportedly contaminated this week.

The Environmental Protection Unit checked Douglas, Gansey and Port St Mary after reports of oil pollution - Chapel Beach in Port St Mary was closed and Douglas Council asked people to be careful near Queen's Promenade after oil was said to have washed up there.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture collected a sample of discoloured foam from Douglas, which it says could be weathered and emulsified oil - it's trying to find out if it's connected to off the north Wales coast some weeks ago.

DEFA says if you spot oil on a beach, you should report it by calling 686627 or emailing environmentalprotection@gov.im
