Number of government freephone lines to be reduced to cut costs

The government will be reducing the amount of freephone lines available for its services. 

Making a statement in Tynwald this week, Cabinet Office minister David Ashford said it was part of a drive to save the taxpayer around £320,000 per year. 

He explained how essential phone numbers had been made free in 2021 to help out during the cost of living crisis, but a review is now due. 

Mr Ashford listed the lines which would be kept free as most critical to the vulnerable:
