OAP fined after his actions delayed start of rally

A pensioner from Solihull has been fined £500 after entering a closed road during this year's Manx National Rally.

80-year-old Colin Washbourne, of Brownley Road, was verbally abusive to marshals stationed at Oatlands Road on May 12th.

Washbourne defied their instructions not to enter the restricted section of the course and proceeded to make his way to a property where he set up photography equipment.

At Douglas Courthouse on Thursday he admitted entering closed roads - the court heard the event was delayed due to his actions.

Washbourne's advocate said he'd been keen to photograph the train going past adding: "Perhaps given his age his lack of patience is explainable although not excusable"

Magistrates also ordered him to pay £50 in prosecution costs telling Washbourne:  "This is behaviour that cannot be tolerated on the Isle of Man."
