Office of Fair Trading reacts to investigation into hidden travel booking charges

Whereas the Isle of Man OFT supports the findings they are still only conclusions rather than legally binding requirements.

The Isle of Man’s Office of Fair Trading are looking into the findings of recent UK OFT investigation into credit and debit card charges incurred when booking travel and holidays.

It was looking into the problems with hidden charges and stated that consumers should be made aware of any extra charges earlier in the booking process.

The review concluded that there should be no charges for debit cards.

Whereas the Isle of Man OFT supports the findings they are still only conclusions rather than legally binding requirements.

As it stands on the Island both Manx2 and the Steam Packet do not impose booking charges on the customer, despite this OFT Chairman Bill Henderson has said the office will contact both companies to make them aware of what the UK OFT has said in relation to price transparency.
