    Old prison could be demolished

The Home Affairs Minister has strongly hinted that the old prison on Victoria Road in Douglas will be knocked down.

Speaking to 3FM, Juan Watterson admitted his department had no use for the building and that it had been place into the government properties pot.

The Rushen MHK also welcomed the appointment of David Quirk and Alan Crowe to his department saying they would bring a lot of experience to the job.

In addition, Mr Watterson also said wanted to see a decline in arrests and a reassessment of what prison was for.

The 31-year-old also vowed to tackle alcohol and illegal drugs problems in the Island and said he’d keep building on the strategy established by his predecessors in an effort to do this.
