Pensioner busted after hiding tobacco in crisp packet

65-year-old Geoffrey Bayle was caught trying to pass over 12.5 grams of the substance - as well as lighter flints and strikers - during a visit to Jurby on November 13th last year. 

 

The Peel man had attended to visit an inmate - he then went to the vending machine and on his return handed him an open packet of crisps.

 

Prison guards watching the CCTV became suspicious when the prisoner put his hand into the bag and then into his pocket - they searched him and the goods were recovered.

 

At Douglas Courthouse this week Bayle admitted introducing articles to the prison - social enquiry reports have been requested before he's sentenced on February 23rd.
