The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has announced its intention to develop a food production park in Peel which could see the creation of many jobs.

The plans relate to the Mill Road Yard industrial estate which historically is known as the Island's fish processing centre.

The plans were announced at a meeting in Peel yesterday with DEFA currently progressing with a planning application for the first phase of works to begin in early 2012.

The first phase will see 60 jobs created, with 100 in total by its completion, it will also provide much needed work for the construction industry.

It's estimated the development would cost government £3 million over a three year period.
