A police analyst who accessed information on his brother in law has escaped serious punishment.
Peter Devereau, of Selbourne Drive in Douglas, appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
The 56-year-old admitted unauthorised access to computer material on April 27 last year - he searched a database for information, and later owned up to the data breach to his line manager.
Magistrates gave Devereau a 12-month conditional discharge, saying he'd "indicated a high level of honesty" by turning himself in.
He was ordered to pay £350 costs.
