Policy for off-Island prescriptions announced

Those travelling off Island for more than three months will need to get their prescription elsewhere.

That's according to the latest policy by the Department of Health and Social Care, which will affect those moving or travelling abroad. 

Treatment won't be supplied for those away for longer than 12 weeks - and people will need to get their medication wherever they are around the globe. 

However, the department says those doing so will be given a sufficient supply of regular medication, to allow them time to find a local supplier in a new destination. 

The DHSC also adds there will be some discretion for specific cases, for example oil rig workers or those working on a cruise ship. 

The new policy comes into force with immediate effect.
