Post Office workers will strike over pay dispute

Chairman accuses Communication Workers Union of being set on this course of action from the outset.

The Communication Workers Union has now confirmed that its Post Office members will be striking.

There will be a 24 hour strike next Tuesday the 12th April.

The news has come as a shock to Chairman of the Post Office Alan Crowe who has said the confirmation comes two days ahead of scheduled talks.

He has said that Union rep Terry Pullinger could have easily taken this decision after the meeting on Wednesday, and it seems the CWU have been set on this course of action from the outset.

The MLC has also accused the union of not understanding the current financial situation faced by the Island.

Chief Executive of the Post Office, Mike Kelly, has said strike action will only damage the business; customer and public support and jeopardise jobs.

The Post Office still remains adamant that there is no room to maneuver on pay increases, in light of the public sector pay freeze.
