The Department of Infrastructure is planning to charge Christmas shoppers for parking on Douglas Promenade's walkway this year.
The move has been suggested in previous years, but has always provoked protests from retailers who say it'll discourage people from visiting the capital.
But the department's currently consulting on plans to charge £1.50 for up to an hour's parking, and £5 for longer than four hours.
The Promenade Walkway, Douglas (Parking Places) Designation Order would come into effect from November 25, just a day after the consultation period ends.
