Prosecution for businesses ignoring health and safety

Local businesses have been warned that they face prosecution if they fail to comply with health and safety rules.

It follows a recent case where a trader received a 10-week prison sentence, suspended for two years, and a £1000 fine for breaching a prohibition notice.

It was after the man continued to operate his business despite an enforcement notice having been issued.

Bernard Warden is the head of the Island's health and safety at work inspectorate - he says business owners must not ignore legislation:
