Red weather warning for Island remains

Picture from the Southern Neighbourhood Policing Team

Motorists are being advised to avoid making non-essential journeys today as the Island continues to be battered by bad weather.

A red weather warning is in operation with winds of up to 85mph due to hit between lunchtime and 6pm.

This is likely to cause structural damage, fallen trees and localised flooding with the north-east likely to be worst affected.

The Mountain Road remains closed until further notice - yesterday teams worked to remove around 750 tonnes of debris after a landslip caused by Thursday's heavy rain.
