Douglas council says it doesn't want to look after the railings on the capital's promenade - because they could cost half a million pounds to maintain.
The Department of Infrastructure asked if the local authority would adopt the railings last year, but the council says repairing or replacing the railings would cost £500,000.
At a council meeting this week members heard the future of the railings, described as being "in poor condition", is uncertain.
Councillors say they won't adopt or take over maintaining the railings.
