Police are warning residents to remain vigilant against crimes which become more prevalent at this time of year.

The constabulary says during winter burglaries and fuel thefts increase and as a result advice is being given to help make sure communities can stay safe.

Officers are saying to consider putting timers on house lights and to check vehicle and domesting oil tanks regularly for levels.

Authorities also advise lock doors, windows, side gates and sheds even when at home and make car fuel tanks difficult to access by parking where possible next to the likes of hedges and walls.
