Restaurant worker awarded £1,800 by tribunal

A hospitality worker has won an employment tribunal against a restaurant that's gone into liquidation.

James Rennison took a case against Portofino on West Quay in Douglas, claiming he'd had unlawful wage deductions, and hadn't been given holiday or notice pay and had never been given pay slips or a contract.

The hearing was told his employment ended in August last year but he wasn't paid for his last week - and had been earning £10 an hour, 75p less than the minimum wage at the time.

The tribunal found in his favour after the restaurant failed to respond, and Mr Rennison was awarded a total of £1,826.50.
