Education minister Daphne Caine says releasing information about problems in schools would prevent open and transparent discussion with inspectors.
In Tynwald this week, she faced questions from Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper about why her department had refused to reveal information about school validations.
Mrs Caine said the process relied on information being shared in an open way between her department, schools and the inspection contractor.
And she added if that information was made public, it could endanger the validations:
