The secretary of the ATL teachers' union says plans to remove work permit restrictions for teachers are in the best interests of the Island's students.
New plans from the Department of Economic Development would see secondary school teachers exempt from needing work permits.
In recent years there's been a growing struggle to find Manx teachers for specialist positions in secondary schools and the current lengthy work permit process makes it tricky to recruit from the rest of the UK.
Andrew Shipley admits there is concern it could take jobs away from local student teachers but says the focus should be on the best possible candidate filling the role:
