Sewage petition gathers over 1,400 signatures

A petition calling for the Manx government "to stop dumping waste into the water" has been signed by over a thousand people.

A petition calling for the Manx government "to stop dumping waste into the water" has been signed by nearly one thousand five hundred people. 

It was launched by the owners of Roots By The Sea, a cafe based on Peel Promenade.

It outlines two areas of concern- that "raw sewage is being pumped into Peel Bay" and that "toxic chemicals are being pumped in to the River Neb".

Plans for a new sewage treatment plant near Peel were withdrawn last year after an independent planning inspector recommended they be refused.

It was planned for Glenfaba Road and was part of the government's regional strategy for sewage treatment.

Campaigners say the petition aims to "hold the politicians accountable".
