'Significant progress' made to reform social housing says Minister

Introducing a shared housing waiting list in the south of the Island has been a success - and will be replicated in other regions.

That's what the Infrastructure Minister told the House of Keys yesterday following questions about progress with transferring control of public sector housing to local authorities.

Ray Harmer claimed there'd been significant progress made with more than 50 meetings taking place over six months in a bid to move housing reform forward.

He said one of the key achievements was the pilot of the shared housing waiting list - it offers tenants the chance to choose where they'll be housed rather than being restricted to a specific area.

The Minister also confirmed a pilot project is taking place with a housing authority which will see it provide services to the department's housing stock within the area.
