Six-month notice period for Corrin Home residents

The potential closure of an Island care home has been delayed so more time can be used to consider its finances and other options.

The Corrin Memorial Home in Peel had been expected to shut its doors in July - however, a motion received backing in Tynwald today requesting a minimum notice period of six months for residents of the home whilst the DHSC can work with trustees to find a solution.

The Board of Directors announced last month plans to shut saying they couldn't make the home - which houses 21 residents and around 40 staff - viable in the long term.

The situation since then has sparked widespread concern, including a petition with over 600 signatures calling for the facility to be saved as well as a public meeting in Peel last night attending by around 150 residents.
