Manx Utilities says it considered data protection and cybersecurity when it began looking at smartmeters for the Island.
A Freedom of Information request asked for details about the checks in the run-up to the meters being installed.
In its response, the organisation said it carried out assessments in 2019 before going ahead with the project.
But it said it couldn't provide details for fear of revealing too much to hackers.
