Smartmeter cutoff numbers only stored for six weeks

Manx Utilities says it can't tell how many people have run out of credit on their electricity meters this year - because it doesn't keep disconnection data that long.

A Freedom of Information request to the organisation asked how many times people with meters had been cut off over the past five years.

In response, it says it didn't keep track of the number until smart meters were installed this year, and only stores it for six weeks.

But it said in the past six weeks, there'd been 1,549 disconnections - there are 5,500 prepaid customers on the Island.
