The Department of Social Care are in the process of advancing proposals which will see improvements made to the quality of lower end private rented sector accommodation.
The Landlord Registration Scheme consultation is set to end in a week’s time, with as many people as possible invited to take part.
Around 14% of residents on the Island live in private rented accommodation, with a considerable number of these properties known to be in poor repair not achieving standards of basic decency.
As it stands the government have no way of regulating the decency standards in the private rented sector.
During 2012 – 2013 the Landlord Registration Scheme will be introduced on a voluntary basis.
