Teen with unfit vehicle hit with £500 fine

A teenager from Ramsey has been fined £500 after being caught driving a vehicle which was not fit for the road.

19-year-old John James Young Smith, of Thornhill Park, admitted having a dangerous and unroadworthy vehicle on July 3rd.

Police located Young Smith's Citroen Berlingo on Rheast Mooar Lane in Ramsey after spotting it parked the wrong way on a one-way street.

Young Smith, who now lives in Morecambe, told the officers it had broken down - noting its condition they arranged for it to be taken to the Vehicle Test Centre.

An inspection showed the car had a large amount of faults and was not roadworthy - these included issues with the lights, exhaust, indicators and tyres.

Admitting the offence via Coroner's Admission Young Smith told the court: "I am very sorry for this inconvenience - I will not be back to the Isle of Man."

Magistrates also ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £50 and endorsed his driving licence with three penalty points.
