The Island's Treasury Minister says it's not his place to tell the Steam Packet which ferries it should operate.
This week in the House of Keys Dr Alex Allinson faced questions about the Ben my Chree and the work needed to bring it up to modern standards.
He said although her sister ships were still sailing daily, the Ben would need around £18 million worth of work to bring her in line with the Manxman.
And he said it wasn't for him to tell to company how to run its fleet:
